Stacey Haefele

My lifelong interest in global affairs can be traced to November 22, 1982, the date Ronald Reagan announced the placement of MX missiles in hardened silos in my hometown of Cheyenne, Wyoming. Who were those missiles were aimed at—and whose missiles were trained on us? And most importantly, why?

I studied international relations at Wellesley College, Universität Konstanz and Columbia University, where I earned a Master of International Affairs in 1992.

Thirty years on, I’ve worked in government affairs, investment banking, management consulting, digital marketing, software, as a service, social media and the metaverse. The common thread throughout my career has been problem solving, relationship-driven business development and growth—in particular in the intersection of technology and professional services. Along the way I’ve developed an emotionally-intelligent, systems-thinking approach, a bias to action, joyful presence under pressure and gift for delivering win-win outcomes.

I left a global executive role in Silicon Valley in February 2023 to begin a year of study at MIT, earning a Sustainability Certificate in July 2024.

My focus now is the promise of circular economies in solving the climate crisis. Recent projects have focused on promoting atmospheric CO2 removal technologies in sustainable and regenenerative agriculture, accelerating growth and scale of glass recycling in Washington State’s Columbia Valley wine region, and advising climate tech start-ups, including a SaaS platform aimed at facilitating decarbonization in the built space - in particular in affordable housing.

I divide my time between Litchfield County, Connecticut and Walla Walla, Washington where I stage as a brand and marketing consultant and pour in the tasting room of Foolhardy Vintners, my partner Jonathan Sams Edelman’s winery.
